It’s been an emotional rollercoaster for Cardi B fans this summer. Just a couple of months ago, Cardi B announced to her devoted Bardigang that her much-anticipated follow-up to her groundbreaking 2018 album, Invasion of Privacy, would likely not be released this year. She cited her desire to focus on “relaxing” and enjoying her summer as the reason for this delay.

However, on Thursday, July 18, Cardi B had some surprising news. On the eve of the release of her new collaboration with Rob49, titled “On Dat Money,” she seemed to have reconsidered her earlier statement. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Cardi revealed that she had had a change of heart and decided that new music would indeed be coming this year. She shared her thoughts with her fans, expressing gratitude for their anticipation and support, whether her days are good or bad. “I wanna say this to Bardi gang or anybody who’s just a fan of my music or even my craziness… I have my good days and my bad days but you know what, whether it’s good or bad I couldn’t be happier with the obvious anticipation for my album,” she wrote before delivering the exciting news.

She continued, “Sometimes I get a little aggressive because yall know I don’t like to be told what to do but I promise you it’s coming THIS YEAR. Thank you for the love and anticipation and always holding me down. I love yall.”

Cardi B wasted no time in fulfilling those dreams. She made a dazzling appearance in New Orleans MC Rob49’s video for “On Dat Money.” The video features the rapper at the center of a mansion filled with exotic dancers, with $100 bills cascading around him. Cardi, channeling Jackie O vibes, rides shotgun in a cash-filled car sporting oversized cat-eye sunglasses, a fur wrap, black head scarf, and bold red lipstick. At one point, she lounges in bed covered with bills, dressed in a fiery red miniskirt, knee-high boots, and a crop top jacket while Rob raps, “F–k me on that money, b–ch/ B–ch, f–k me on that money” over a grinding trap beat.

As the video progresses, Cardi joins in on the lyrics, rapping, “Yeah, f–k me right there on that money/ I ride d–k on my feet, I be hoppin’ like a bunny/ I’m a freak, slut me out, you gon’ see me get disgustin,” adding another catchy feature to her catalog. Meanwhile, thong-clad dancers spin on stripper poles in the background.

This collaboration follows a series of loose singles Cardi has released this year, including “Enough (Miami)” and “Like What,” along with various other features. It also comes after Cardi took aim at rapper and podcaster Joe Budden. She addressed his harsh comments about the rollout of her new album on Thursday, ahead of the Rob49 single’s release.

Cardi didn’t hold back, saying, “Bro, I gave you a lap dance two times in Starlets. You was high as f–k. High as f–k on coke, n—a… I don’t give a f–k when people talk s–t about me. It’s the fact you always talk s–t about me Joe Budden. Out of nowhere, you would think I did something to this n—a… For the past two years, this n—a has only talked bad things about me.”

Cardi also criticized Budden for his continuous comparisons of other female rappers to her, calling him out for what she sees as his desire to critique her work. “But you really want my album to come out so you can criticize it. Cause every time I drop something you don’t like it,” she said. “Every single time a b—h drops something and they doing mediocre, you say they doing better than me… What are you talking about? The s–t is in motion. Merch is in motion, the box sets are in motion. You don’t know s–t.”

In a recent podcast, Budden confidently predicted that Cardi would never release another album, stating, “We’ll never get another album again. I am standing on it.” However, Rolling Stone reported that a representative for Cardi confirmed she would indeed release an album this year.
