Cardi B is seeking primary custody of her children with rapper Offset, including the baby she is currently expecting, as detailed in the couple’s recent divorce filings. The Grammy-winning superstar is also asking for child support from Offset, who is known for his career with the rap group Migos and his solo work.

The details of Cardi B’s requests were revealed in court documents obtained on Friday, just a day after they were filed in New Jersey’s Bergen County Superior Court. Cardi B, aged 31, and Offset, aged 32, are parents to two children: 6-year-old daughter Kulture and 2-year-old son Wave. Cardi B is also pregnant with their third child, a fact she announced in an Instagram post on Thursday. The court filings confirm Offset as the father.

The documents indicate that for the past six months, Cardi B and Offset, whose real names are Belcalis Almanzar and Kiari Cephus respectively, “have experienced irreconcilable differences.” The filing states that “there is no reasonable prospect of reconciliation between the parties.”

A representative for Cardi B told The Associated Press that the decision to file for divorce is not based on any one incident, adding that, “it has been a long time coming and is amicable.”

The couple, recognized as a power duo in the hip-hop world, were secretly married on September 20, 2017, in Atlanta. They publicly announced their engagement one month later. Cardi B, who was raised in the South Bronx, rose to fame as a cast member on VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop: New York” before launching a highly successful rap career.

Her debut album, “Invasion of Privacy,” earned her a Grammy and included No. 1 hits like “Bodak Yellow” and “I Like It,” featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin. Cardi B’s profile has continued to grow, with other chart-topping songs including her collaboration with Maroon 5 on “Girls Like You” in 2018, “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion in 2020, and “Up” in 2021.

The details from the court records were first reported by TMZ. This isn’t the first time Cardi B has filed for divorce; in 2020, she initiated divorce proceedings in Georgia, citing that her marriage was “irretrievably broken” but later withdrew the filing.
