Caretakers for Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet During Colombia Tour?

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently on a four-day tour of Colombia. They are visiting the capital city of Bogota and will later travel to Cartagena and Cali.

Like their trip to Nigeria in May, Harry and Meghan have left their young children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three, at home in Montecito, California.

So who is looking after the Sussex children?

Doria Ragland

Harry and Meghan are very close to the Duchess’ mother, Doria Ragland, who often helps with childcare. Though Doria is based in Los Angeles, she frequently travels to Montecito to see her grandchildren.

The Sussexes reportedly have a two-bedroom, two-bathroom guest house on their £11million property, which is perfect for Doria. Their estate also features an adventure playground with two slides, a climbing frame, a tightrope, a helter-skelter, and two types of climbing walls—ideal for keeping the children entertained while their parents are away.

The children’s nanny

The Sussexes also employ a nanny to help care for their children. While not much is known about her, the nanny has been with the family since Lilibet was at least a toddler, if not earlier.

In an interview with The Cut published in August 2022, when Lilibet was 14 months old, interviewer Allison P. Davis shared: “We pull up to the house, and Archie leaps out. Harry ends a phone call as Archie wraps himself around his legs.

Lilibet, unsmiling with her bright-blue eyes, is brought out by her nanny. She is small and also ginger. When there is a small person in the room not smiling, it’s reflex to do anything to entertain them.

“Harry starts dancing to his own beatboxing, Meghan joins in, and then I find myself doing it too. Finally, Lilibet gives a lopsided smile.”

Why have Harry and Meghan gone to Colombia?

Harry and Meghan began their tour on Thursday by meeting with Vice President Francia Márquez and her husband, Rafael Yerney Pinillo.

According to Ms. Márquez, who invited the royals, the purpose of their visit is to “engage in several activities” related to safeguarding young people online and in physical spaces.

Harry and Meghan are particularly passionate about children’s online safety. Earlier this month, they launched the Parents’ Network, an initiative providing a safe support network for parents whose children have been harmed by social media.

Child safety topics are also expected to be discussed at the Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, which Colombia will host in November.

Ms. Márquez’s statement added that Harry and Meghan “will have the exceptional opportunity to engage with leaders, youth, and women who embody the aspirations and voices of Colombians committed to progress. In addition to these interactions, the Duke and Duchess will experience Colombia’s rich heritage.”

Their tour so far

On the first day of their tour, the Sussexes visited a school in Bogota. They participated in an Insight Session to understand the impact of the digital world on young people.

They also took part in a summit, hosted partly by their charitable foundation, The Archewell Foundation. Here, they discussed creating a healthier digital landscape and the urgent need for responsible technology practices.
