Carly Pearce Shares What She Wishes Fans Would Stop Doing

Even though it’s been four years since Carly Pearce and Michael Ray divorced, the singer says fans still speculate that every heartbreak song she releases is about that relationship.

During a recent Q&A session on social media, a fan asked Pearce about the biggest public misconception regarding her. The singer responded, “That I’m not over my divorce.”

Pearce mentioned that many listeners assume she’s still writing about her divorce in every song she releases, but she has long since closed that chapter of her life.

“It’s been super hard to feel like every song I write since that very public situation is being attached to that relationship, when in reality, that couldn’t be further from the truth,” Pearce said. “I’ve had relationships since then that I pull inspiration from & even storylines that are just important to me in general.”

She pointed out that heartbreak ballads have always been part of her repertoire. Her breakout hit was her debut single “Every Little Thing,” and Pearce implied that fans have even tied that song to her relationship, despite the fact that the ballad came out in 2017 — two years before she and Ray got married.

Pearce ended her answer with a gentle request for fans to move on. “I’ve moved on & wish everyone could, too,” she added.

Pearce was open about her divorce from Ray throughout the process, and her 29: Written in Stone album was largely inspired by the heartbreak and healing she experienced in the wake of the split. But that album came out in 2021, and since then, she has released quite a bit of new music, including her latest album Hummingbird.
