Carly Pearce Shares What She Wishes Fans Would Stop Doing

Even though it’s been four years since Carly Pearce divorced Michael Ray, fans continue to speculate that every heartbreak song she releases is related to that past relationship.

During a recent social media Q&A, a fan asked Pearce about the biggest misconception people have about her. “That I’m not over my divorce,” she responded.

Pearce explained that many listeners assume she writes about her divorce in every song, but she has long moved on from that chapter of her life.

“It’s been super hard to feel like every song I write since that very public situation is attached to that relationship, when in reality—that couldn’t be further from the truth,” she elaborated. “I’ve had relationships since then that I pull inspiration from, and even storylines that are just important to me in general.”

She pointed out that she has always written heartbreak ballads. Her breakout hit, “Every Little Thing,” was released in 2017, two years before she married Ray. Despite this, some fans still tie it to her relationship with him.

Pearce ended her answer with a gentle request for fans to move on. “I’ve moved on & wish everyone could, too,” she added.

Pearce was open about her divorce from Ray while it was happening, and her album 29: Written in Stone was largely inspired by the heartbreak and healing she experienced after the split. However, that album was released in 2021, and she has since put out a lot of new music, including her latest album Hummingbird.
