‘Catfish’ Host Nev Schulman Feels Fortunate to Survive Major Bike Crash

Nev Schulman said he feels “lucky” to be alive after surviving a major bicycle crash earlier this week.

The Catfish: The TV Show host opened up to his fans about the incident in a Saturday, August 10, post on Instagram. He included photos and videos of himself in the hospital, adding a warning label to the beginning of the 13-part post for those who might find the images “unsettling.”

Schulman, 39, described the entire ordeal in his lengthy Instagram caption. He started by reminiscing about a last-minute fishing trip he took with his family on Sunday, August 4, a “day full of love and wonder” that contrasted drastically with what happened the next day.

“Monday gave weight to just how lucky I was to have Sunday,” he wrote. “It’s true what they say – life can change in an instant.”

As the father of three explained, he had planned to pick up one of his sons from school on his bike on Monday, August 5, but never made it there.

“In fact in some ways, I’m glad I didn’t,” he wrote. “I was alone on impact. Me and the truck. And then I guess the pavement.”

The crash resulted in a broken neck for Schulman, who quickly added that he was not paralyzed. “My hands were a question mark there for a minute but the human body is incredible and so are HUMANS,” he added.

The reality TV star praised the emergency and medical personnel who helped him in the immediate aftermath of the crash and noted it is “hard to feel sorry for myself when I hear from the doctors about how many people with similar injuries will never walk again.”

“I’m lucky to be here, alive, standing and hugging my family, projected to make a full recovery,” he wrote. “And I’m really starting to understand the meaning of gratitude. For the big and little things before the accident, and now everything moving forward.”
