Cedar Point Reveals Plans for Record-Breaking Coaster Siren’s Curse in 2025

Cedar Point is set to unveil a new record-breaking roller coaster next year, adding to its impressive array of rides. The announcement comes on the heels of the recent unveiling of the Top Thrill 2 roller coaster, which was only operational for about a week this season before being closed for further modifications.

The park, located in Sandusky, Ohio, will introduce the Siren’s Curse, a coaster that promises a unique ride experience as it is billed to be the tallest, fastest, and longest “tilt” roller coaster in America. This ride draws inspiration from the mythical sirens of Lake Erie, known for luring sailors with their enchanting songs.

Cedar Point’s Siren’s Curse will be the tallest, fastest, and longest “tilt” roller coaster in America.

Upon embarking on the Siren’s Curse, riders will ascend a lift hill designed to resemble an old 160-foot-tall shipping crane that once operated over Lake Erie. As they reach the top, they will encounter a broken track that appears to lead nowhere, creating an air of suspense.

This is when the thrill intensifies—the platform will tilt a full 90 degrees straight down before the track connects to a twisted section below. Riders are then launched down nearly 3,000 feet of twisting track, hitting a maximum speed of 58 mph.

Throughout the ride, thrill-seekers will experience 13 moments of weightlessness, along with two 360-degree, zero-gravity barrel rolls, and a high-speed “triple-down” element featuring twisted and overbanked track. Each train will accommodate 24 passengers, with integrated audio and LED lighting to enhance the experience.

The Siren’s Curse will boast a compact vertical design and will be located near the Iron Dragon coaster and close to Cedar Point Marina. To take part in the adventure, passengers will need to meet a minimum height requirement of 48 inches.

Construction is slated to begin soon, although Cedar Point is not guaranteeing the coaster will be operational by the park’s opening day next spring. Instead, a tentative opening date has been set for early summer 2025. Once completed, Siren’s Curse will be the 19th roller coaster added to Cedar Point’s already extensive collection, including Top Thrill 2.

“Record-breaking thrills have always been at the heart of Cedar Point’s roller coaster lineup, and Siren’s Curse lives up to that standard,” said Carrie Boldman, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. “The entire ride is an experience filled with non-stop action, but that first precarious tilted position where you’re hanging on—looking straight down—will be a signature moment our fans will love. It’s a first-of-its kind for Cedar Point, and we’re thrilled to bring it to our guests.”

The development of Siren’s Curse coincides with ongoing efforts to address concerns surrounding the Top Thrill 2 roller coaster. The park has kept details about the issues leading to the ride’s closure under wraps, but work crews have been seen dismantling the coaster cars and inspecting the track for several months. Cedar Point plans to bring Top Thrill 2 back into operation in 2025.

The announcement of this new coaster follows the park’s farewell to its Snake River Falls water ride over the recent Labor Day weekend. The anticipation for Siren’s Curse is palpable among thrill-seekers.

Anticipation builds for the new record-breaking coaster.

The concept of a “tilt” roller coaster is relatively new in the United States. According to Derek Perry, communications director for American Coaster Enthusiasts, the design features an innovative mechanism where the track tilts from parallel to the ground to perpendicular, similar to a seesaw, before aligning with a hidden track beneath. Riders experience the thrill of free-fall as the coaster train drops at a 90-degree angle once the tracks join.

Perry expressed his excitement for the new coaster, describing it as a wonderful surprise and an exciting addition to Cedar Point’s offerings. Vekoma, a firm based in the Netherlands, is responsible for the design and construction of Siren’s Curse, which mirrors a tilt coaster currently in development for an amusement park in Texas. While similar experiences exist in places like Germany and China, Siren’s Curse will mark a new milestone in U.S. coaster design.
