Recently, CeeDee Lamb signed a lucrative contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys, securing his future with the team potentially until 2028. With this deal finalized, Lamb is looking forward to continuing his partnership with quarterback Dak Prescott.

Lamb participated in a light workout during practice just hours after signing a four-year extension worth $136 million, which ended his lengthy holdout. This deal has been highly anticipated as it marks a big step for Lamb after months of uncertainty regarding his contract situation.

As the Cowboys prepare for the upcoming season, Prescott is entering the final year of his own record-setting deal, which was worth $160 million over four years. The two players have demonstrated strong chemistry on the field, particularly last season, which was Prescott’s best year to date with Lamb as his main receiver.

Last season, Lamb emerged as one of the top receivers in the league, leading the NFL with an impressive 135 receptions. He also amassed 1,749 receiving yards and scored 12 touchdowns. Throughout his career, which spans four seasons, Lamb has consistently set new personal bests in all these categories.

Prescott was responsible for delivering most of these passes, and he has been engaged in ongoing discussions with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones regarding a new contract. Lamb expressed confidence in the likelihood of Prescott securing a new deal, emphasizing that both he and the team want Prescott to remain with the Cowboys.

“You look at our numbers together, they’re at the top of the charts,” Lamb stated. “I have no doubt that they’re going to get a deal done. We all know I want Dak here. Jerry wants Dak here, too. Let’s just get this under control, kill the speculations.”

Lamb’s own experience of speculation was challenging, having recently navigated around eight months of intense discussions prior to finally receiving a favorable contract offer from his agent, Tory Dandy.

“It was kinda crazy because he hit me with, ‘Yeah, man. This is going south,’” Lamb recalled. “I’m like, ‘What do you mean, it’s going south? It’s time.’ And he’s, ‘Yeah, they’re only going to pay you $34 (million) a year.’ I’m like, ‘Bro, where do I sign?’”

The financial terms of his new deal are significant, falling just short of the largest contract for a non-quarterback in NFL history. This record was set by receiver Justin Jefferson, who signed a $140 million, four-year contract just a day before Lamb formally initiated his holdout by missing mandatory minicamp in June.

Lamb’s holdout included missed training camp activities and the offseason program. He hadn’t been at the Cowboys’ headquarters since the disappointing wild-card loss to Green Bay in January.

Although in Miami when the deal was finalized, Lamb spent considerable time in the spring and summer near the team facility. He even drove by “The Star,” the Cowboys’ headquarters, often tempted to stop in but opted instead to enjoy some meals nearby.

Now with the contract finalized, Lamb has limited time to prepare for the season opener against Cleveland on September 8th. He acknowledged he needs to get physically prepared for the games ahead.

“I gotta get bumped a little bit,” Lamb noted. “Not so much hit, as I’m running, a little nudge. Those are just little things, contact balance. But again, I train for those. I feel like I’m more prepared than ever.”

He aims to be game-ready to face the Browns and fully understands the potential challenges of missing out on training camp, which he admits he regrets.

“Yes, bro. No question. I’ll be ready,” he affirmed.

Lamb also addressed a moment from training camp that gained traction online, where he responded lightheartedly to Jones’ remarks about a lack of urgency regarding Lamb’s contract. He clarified that while he respects Jones’ opinions, he is mainly focused on achieving success on the field.

“He’s entitled to whatever he’s got to say, as long as we get the deal done,” Lamb said.

After finalizing the contract, Lamb had a straightforward conversation with Jones, putting the past behind them and emphasizing that he is ready to focus on playing football.

“Just have to (make it) clear that everything was behind us. I’m not worried about nothing. We got what we needed to get done. And now it’s time for me to go ball,” he concluded.
