Celebrities Spotted Watching Simone Biles

The US women’s gymnastics team, led by Simone Biles, attracted a star-studded crowd at the 2024 Olympics in Paris on Sunday.

Simone Biles competed in the Women’s Qualification on July 28, despite an injury, achieving the highest scores on both floor and vault. Notable celebrities such as Tom Cruise were seen in the audience, with fans eagerly approaching him for selfies and handshakes.

Actor and producer Jessica Chastain also attended, sitting in front of Vogue’s Anna Wintour and Elvis director Baz Luhrmann. In attendance was Lady Gaga, who performed during the opening ceremony. Gaga later posted a video of Biles on Instagram with the caption, “She nailed it, what an honor to be so close!”

Snoop Dogg, present as a special correspondent for NBC Sports, was spotted in the front row. Also enjoying the event were Wicked co-stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, The Chi creator Lena Waithe, who sat next to Anna Wintour.

Musicians made a strong showing, with Nick Jonas and John Legend seen chatting, joined by Legend’s wife, Chrissy Teigen. In the mix was Barbie director Greta Gerwig, seated just in front of Tom Cruise.

Former US snowboarder and skateboarder Shaun White attended with Nina Dobrev, his girlfriend and The Vampire Diaries alum. Together, they all witnessed Biles and the US team’s electrifying performance, which included teammates Jordan Chiles, Hezly Rivera, Sunisa Lee, and Jade Carey.

This event marked Biles’ first competitive appearance in Paris, aiming to add to her already impressive tally of seven Olympic medals. At 27 years old, she not only became the fourth American woman to compete in three Olympic Games but also the oldest American gymnast to participate in the Olympics in 72 years. She is currently tied with Shannon Miller for the most Olympic medals earned by a US gymnast.

Biles had previously competed in the 2016 Rio games and the 2020 Tokyo games, although she had to withdraw from most of the 2020 competitions due to a case of the “twisties.” This year, she competed with a minor calf injury, but according to US coach Cecile Landi, there were no plans to have her sit out.

Landi explained that the injury had only been troubling Biles for a few weeks and wasn’t severe. “I can’t express it,” said Landi. “I’m really proud of her and what she’s been through and what she’s showing the world what she’s capable of doing.”

Biles posted an all-around total score of 59.566, and the American team scored 172.296. Those looking to catch all the Olympic events can do so via cable on NBC, USA Network, or E! It is also available to stream on Peacock.
