Their very modern love story began on a dating app. “Freddy and I met on Hinge in August of 2018,” shares celebrity makeup artist Nina Park about meeting Frederik Vig, a tech startup founder. “I was living in New York, and balancing my job with meeting new people was quite challenging. Freddy was living in NYC and managing his startup in Oslo remotely.”

Park’s demanding schedule takes her from the Met Gala to global press tours as the in-demand makeup artist for celebrities like Margot Robbie and Zoë Kravitz. Vig had an equally busy agenda, so their plans didn’t align at first. “Our first date took some time to schedule, but we finally met for a spontaneous evening at Noorman’s Kill in Williamsburg, bonding over grilled cheese and whiskey.”

Despite their instant connection, they started slowly. “For the first three months, we played the typical dating games—waiting to text back, pretending to be unavailable,” explains Park. “Then, one day, while I was in London for a press tour, Freddy texted me and said, ‘I like you, I think you like me too. Can we stop playing games and just be real?’ From that moment on, we were inseparable. In 2020, we moved to Los Angeles, where we now call home.”

In December 2023, the couple planned a romantic trip to Ojai before Park’s mother came from Korea for Christmas. “We spent two nights at the Ojai Valley Inn and the whole time I was anticipating a proposal,” Park recalls. “On our last night, in our pajamas and over wine in our room, I finally said, ‘I feel silly, but I thought you were going to propose on this trip.’ We laughed, and then, to my surprise, he got down on one knee and finally asked the question.”

The couple decided on an intimate wedding near Sequoia National Park to celebrate their love in nature, among their closest friends.

“As I got ready with my best friends, we enjoyed music and champagne, making it all the more special. My friend Stevie began singing ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love,’ and we all joined in.”

“My close friend, Miriam Park, styled my hair in loose, airy waves. My first assistant Yukari Bush did my makeup, creating a natural, glowy look. I wanted to feel effortless that day, and I never felt more beautiful.”

The preparation was full of reflection and excitement for this new chapter. Nina spent time adding to her vows, making the moment even more meaningful.

“Although our wedding was small, I’m incredibly happy with how we chose to celebrate. Every moment felt deeply personal. We remember every detail. We wanted a special ceremony where we could fully absorb the experience and enjoy being together meaningfully.”

“Freddy and I initially planned a courthouse wedding, then celebrations in Norway later this year, followed by a reception with friends for our one-year anniversary. Instead, we chose a private ceremony in a beautiful natural setting, surrounded by trees.”

They rented a charming house in Three Rivers near Sequoia National Park. The house felt like a peaceful retreat. Friends flew into Los Angeles, and the group drove together to the house, making the experience memorable.

When they found Slick Rock Park, they knew it was the place. The mountains, flowing water, and beautiful hills offered a tranquil, picturesque setting matching their vision for the day.

Their close friend, Stevie Chong, officiated the ceremony, which exceeded all expectations.

“We didn’t have a specific plan for where we wanted to get married. The fun of having a small wedding was living in the moment and discovering a perfect, serene spot in nature.”

“It felt like a movie, being surrounded by our closest friends in such a beautiful setting.”

Nina found her dress at Khaite, choosing a tea-length gown for walking through the grass. She accessorized with a vintage white fur coat, a vintage diamond necklace, and a diamond bracelet given to her by Freddy. The engagement ring and wedding band were from Jessica McCormack, picked out with the help of a close friend and stylist, Andrew Mukamal.

“Freddy wore a black Tom Ford suit with a white Ledbury shirt and shoes from Paul Evans.”

“We were immersed in taking our vows and exchanging rings. The emotions were overwhelming, and I couldn’t stop crying.”

“We signed the marriage certificates after the ceremony.”

They celebrated with a casual dinner prepared by their chef, Laurene Cota.

“I’ll never forget Stevie’s toast back at the house. He pointed out that even though we’d eloped with our closest friends, it didn’t mean we should miss out on a first dance. To our surprise, Ted Nunes began singing ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’ by Elvis Presley. Freddy and I had our first dance in the living room, me in Uggs and Freddy in socks. It was heartfelt.”

Since their dogs, Bo and Bruna, couldn’t join the wedding, they arranged a photo shoot with them before leaving for Sequoia. It was memorable to include them in their wedding memories.

Having the shoot before the ceremony eased the pressure of capturing perfect photos on the big day, allowing them to enjoy every moment.
