Celine Dion has shared a message with her fans following her triumphant comeback performance at the close of the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony.

The French-Canadian chanteuse wrote on X:

“I’m honoured to have performed tonight, for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, and so full of joy to be back in one of my very favourite cities!

“Most of all, I’m so happy to be celebrating these amazing athletes, with all their stories of sacrifice and determination, pain and perseverance.”

“All of you have been so focused on your dream, and whether or not you take home a medal, I hope that being here means that it has come true for you! You should all be so proud, we know how hard you have worked to be the best of the best. Stay focused, keep going, my heart is with you! – Celine xx …”

Friday evening, she sang from a platform on the Eiffel Tower, performing Edith Piaf’s classic song Hymne de l’Amour (Hymn To Love) as the final number of the ceremony. She previously sang at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

Canadian premier Justin Trudeau heralded his countrywoman on X, writing:

A proud Quebecer from Charlemagne is on stage at the Opening Ceremony!

@celinedion is a Canadian icon, an incredible talent, and she overcame a lot to be there tonight. Céline, it’s great to see you singing again.”

This was the superstar’s first public performance in four years, after she stepped back in 2019 revealing that she had been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological condition. She recently shared insights into her health battle in the Prime Video documentary I Am: Celine.
