Celine Dion’s return to the stage at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris was an emotional and highly anticipated event. The 56-year-old singer’s comeback was made possible by the unwavering support of her team and her devoted fans. However, the most heartfelt encouragement came from her eldest son, René-Charles Angélil.

René-Charles, 23, is the oldest of Celine’s three sons with her late husband, René Angélil. He has two younger brothers, twins Eddy and Nelson, who are 13 years old. As Dion made her grand return, René-Charles was there in Paris to cheer and support his mother.

Mother and son were seen together multiple times leading up to the event. A particularly touching video surfaced, showing the frenzy before and after her performance. The clip highlighted the special bond between them.

The video captured moments of Celine preparing for the show — from hair and makeup to outfit fittings. She also performed stretches to counteract muscle spasms caused by Stiff Person Syndrome. Practicing her vocal routines before getting ushered onto the stage, Celine had her son right by her side.

After her breathtaking performance, the backstage area was filled with a jubilant and emotional atmosphere. René-Charles was visibly moved, wiping away tears, with a crew member offering him support by rubbing his shoulder. The heartfelt moment culminated in Celine pulling her son into a tight embrace.

The video garnered numerous supportive and emotional comments from fans, such as: “I’m not crying,” “I miss you so much already,” and “Sublime, formidable, espectacular!”

Earlier this year, in an interview with Hoda Kotb on the Today Show, her first after going public with her diagnosis, Celine candidly discussed her return to the stage and how she’d spoken to her sons about her illness.

She shared that she had explained to her children that she wasn’t “dying” and how to manage sudden spasms. “Don’t be scared if I can’t talk. Mom’s not dying,” she reassured them. She instructed them to call 9-1-1 if she couldn’t respond.

Celine emphasized the importance of talking to her kids to alleviate their fears. “As a mother, it’s crucial to let your children know you’re not going to die. Yes, Dad is in Heaven and he’s fine. Mom is going to be OK.”

In a previous interview with Vogue France, she mentioned having to remind her children that she was alright despite media reports on her health struggles. “I died already in newspapers many times,” she joked.

Celine advised her sons to critically assess what they read or hear. “I have to remind them not to believe everything you read or hear,” she added.
