Chappell Roan and Olivia Rodrigo Surprise Fans with LA Show Collaboration

During Olivia Rodrigo’s fourth Guts World Tour show in Los Angeles, California, on August 20, 2024, she was joined on stage by Chappell Roan. Together, they recreated an iconic TikTok trend, adding a special flair to the night’s performance.

Between renditions of “Jealousy, Jealousy” and “Happier,” Rodrigo and Roan performed a cover of “Hot to Go!” as a special treat for the audience. Introducing Roan, Rodrigo spoke warmly of her, calling her a “powerful” artist.

“I’ve known this next artist for about four years now, and two years ago, she opened for me on the Sour Tour in San Francisco,” Rodrigo shared. “I was so lucky to have her open for me for a lot of the Guts World Tour dates earlier this year. I absolutely adore her — I think she is one of the most singular, inspiring, and powerful artists I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. And I’m so excited because she’s going to sing one of my favorite songs of all time with me tonight.”

Roan responded with a simple but heartfelt “Thank you,” before the duo launched into their performance of “Hot to Go!” and even taught the audience a dance routine.

Later that evening, the two recorded a playful TikTok together. They jumped on the “I hope she plays” joke, using “Hot to Go!” as the punchline.

In the TikTok, Rodrigo humorously says, “I hope she plays ‘Hot to Go!’” Roan quips back, “This is an Olivia Rodrigo concert, b***h,” before the video cuts to them performing live.

As Rodrigo mentioned, Roan has a bit of history as an opener for Rodrigo. The first time she opened was during the San Francisco stop of the Sour Tour on May 27, 2022. For the current Guts World Tour, Roan was the opening act for the first 24 dates of the tour’s North American leg.

Rodrigo is currently on her second headlining tour in support of her sophomore album, Guts. The Guts World Tour kicked off on February 23, 2024, in Palm Springs, California.

This tour is significantly more extensive than her previous Sour Tour. The Guts World Tour includes five legs and covers 94 shows from February 22, 2024, to October 22, 2024.

She is in the midst of concluding a six-night stay in Inglewood, California, near Los Angeles. The first four performances took place at the Kia Forum before moving to the Intuit Dome on August 20. The last show for this leg is scheduled for August 21. Following this, Rodrigo will head to Asia with tour stops in Thailand, South Korea, China, Japan, and Singapore.

Rodrigo’s album Guts has been widely celebrated, featuring hit singles like “Vampire,” “Bad Idea Right?” and “Get Him Back!” At the Grammy Awards, Rodrigo received six nominations, including Album of the Year, although she did not secure any wins.

Guts follows her highly successful debut album Sour, which featured blockbuster tracks “Good 4 U” and “Drivers License.” Sour earned Rodrigo three Grammy Awards: Best Pop Vocal Album, Best New Artist, and Best Pop Solo Performance.
