Chappell Roan Criticizes VIPs at Outside Lands for Being ‘Too Cool’ to Enjoy

Chappell Roan’s rise to stardom continued this weekend as she played for another massive crowd at the Outside Lands music festival in San Francisco. The scene was awash with pink cowboy hats, a signature look for the artist’s fans. However, this lively atmosphere didn’t seem to extend to the VIP section, positioned right up front.

Roan expressed her frustration with the VIP section for not dancing despite paying thousands of dollars for their spots. “It’s so weird that VIP thinks they’re so way too cool to do this!” she exclaimed before launching into her song “Hot To Go!” which marked its one-year anniversary. For this special occasion, she donned the sparkly blue outfit from the music video. Roan then shouted “you’re not fun!” as the non-VIP crowd cheered in agreement.

Outside Lands featured an impressive lineup including Sabrina Carpenter, who made a special appearance with Kacey Musgraves, Post Malone, and Kaytranada. Despite the heavy hitters, Allen Scott, president of concerts and festivals for Outside Lands producer Another Planet Entertainment, told the San Francisco Chronicle that a staggering 50,000 of the festival’s 75,000 attendees showed up primarily to see Roan on Sunday.
