Chappell Roan’s Album Tops Billboard’s Vinyl Chart

Chappell Roan’s album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess has soared to the top of Billboard’s Vinyl Albums chart, claiming the No. 1 spot for the first time. The album made an impressive leap, climbing from No. 12 to the top of the chart dated Aug. 24. This significant rise was powered by the sale of 8,500 vinyl copies in the U.S. during the tracking week ending Aug. 15, as reported by Luminate. This represents a remarkable 203% increase in sales compared to the previous week.

The Aug. 24 chart update on Billboard will be officially published on Aug. 20.

The album’s jump to No. 1 can be partly attributed to Roan’s notable festival appearance at Outside Lands in San Francisco on Aug. 11. During her performance, she created a memorable moment by playfully scolding the VIP section for not singing along to her song “Hot to Go!” This performance followed another energetic show at Lollapalooza in Chicago on Aug. 1, further bolstering her album’s popularity.

Overall, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess has sold 80,000 vinyl copies since its release in September 2023.

Adding to the album’s success, it has reached new peaks on several other key charts. The album moved up to No. 2 on the Billboard 200, advanced to No. 2 on Top Streaming Albums, and climbed to No. 3 on Top Album Sales, all on the chart dated Aug. 24.

In the tracking week from Aug. 9-15, Rise achieved 72,000 equivalent album units, marking its best week yet. Out of this total, over 14,000 units were from traditional album sales, which was the album’s second-largest sales week. Additionally, the album’s tracks garnered 75.42 million on-demand official streams, translating to 57,000 streaming-equivalent album units. Both of these figures represent new one-week highs for the album.
