Charithra Chandran from ‘Bridgerton’ Cast in ‘One Piece’ Season 2

Aug. 23 (UPI) — Actress Charithra Chandran, known for her role in Bridgerton , will step into the character of Miss Wednesday in the upcoming Season 2 of the live-action adaptation of One Piece .

Season 1 of the highly anticipated manga adaptation made its debut on Netflix in 2023, quickly garnering a remarkable 37.8 million views within weeks.

Iñaki Godoy takes on the role of Monkey D. Luffy, the ever-optimistic explorer on a quest to discover the elusive One Piece treasure, a prize that would crown him “King of the Pirates.”

Series creator Eiichiro Oda, also known as Oda-Sensei, previously remarked that upon watching Godoy’s audition tape, he thought, “That’s Luffy.”

Oda initiated the manga series in 1997, and it has since expanded into more than 100 volumes.

Reflecting on the series’ journey, Oda said, “Back then, 26 years ago when I started One Piece , it was not an era when such a manga could be made into a film.”

Despite this, his imaginative world has inspired over 1000 episodes of an animated series and about 15 feature films.

Chandran expressed her excitement for the role on X, saying, “I am so excited to be joining the cast of One Piece. And I feel incredibly grateful to Oda Sensei for trusting me with the role of Vivi. I know how much she means to all of you, and I am going to work my hardest to do her justice and make you all proud.”

The cast of the series also includes Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp and Taz Skylar as Sanji.

Other characters previously introduced for Season 2 feature Sendhil Ramamurthy as Nefertari Cobra, Katey Sagal as Dr. Kureha, and Mark Harelik as Dr. Hiriluk.

Aside from her role in Bridgerton as Edwina, Chandran is also set to star in the upcoming series Dune: Prophecy .

Production for Season 2 of One Piece is currently underway, though a premiere date has yet to be announced.
