Charlamagne tha God: Harris Needs More Interviews, Walz is a ‘DEI Hire’

Radio host Charlamagne tha God recently urged Vice President Kamala Harris to engage in more media interviews, suggesting that her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, is perceived as the race’s “DEI candidate.” Known for his role on “The Breakfast Club,” a show that addresses issues related to black culture, politics, and society, Charlamagne noted that Biden had previously struggled in debates, predicting difficulties in his matchup against former President Donald Trump.

In a conversation with ABC News host Jonathan Karl, Charlamagne contrasted Harris with Biden, stating that while Biden exudes “no main character energy,” Harris possesses “super main character energy.” Despite this, he expressed concern over her current media presence, specifically questioning why she is not maximizing her popularity by collaborating with influencers and making appearances on various shows, especially with the November election approaching.

Charlamagne emphasized the importance of capitalizing on her current virality. “She’s never been this viral. She’s never been all over social media in a good way like now,” he pointed out. “So now that you’ve got those people’s attention, go out there and talk to them and tell them what your future looks like because those kids are the future. That’s how you win this election.”

His comments came on the heels of Republican nominee Trump making headlines for his controversial remarks at the National Association of Black Journalists convention on July 31, where he falsely claimed that Harris “happened to turn Black.” Trump further engaged a younger demographic by appearing on the livestream of popular influencer Adin Ross and announcing an interview with Tesla’s founder Elon Musk to air soon.

Charlamagne criticized the Democratic Party for not utilizing media channels effectively, contrasting this with the right’s strategic use of supportive media. “He’s always calling into conservative talk radio, which is one of my biggest issues with the Democratic Party,” he said, highlighting a significant divide in media strategies between the two parties.

In a lighthearted manner, Charlamagne also mocked Republican criticisms of Harris, who has been labeled a “DEI pick”—a term often used to diminish her qualifications based on her gender and race. His joke about her selection was pointed: “We knew she needed a DEI hire, right? She needed a white male to make America comfortable.”

His remarks reflect a broader concern about representation and the challenges women and minorities face within the political landscape. He remarked, “It is what it has no need for us to, you know, act crazy about it,” suggesting that these discussions should be taken seriously but also approached with a sense of humor.
