Charlamagne tha God: Harris’s Surge Is More Than Just a ‘Honeymoon’

Charlamagne tha God, a prominent radio host, addressed the current political climate during a recent interview, where he emphasized that while the Democrats have shown some renewed energy, there is still much work to be done as the November elections approach.

In an appearance on ABC News’s “This Week,” Charlamagne dismissed the notion that the Democratic surge is merely a temporary “honeymoon phase” following Vice President Harris’s elevation to the top of the ticket. He asserted that the party cannot afford to relax just yet.

“I think there’s less apathy, but, you know, if I’m the Democrats, I’m not spiking the football yet. The job is not done,” he said, emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus and diligence as the election date looms. “You still have to bring this thing home in November,” he added.

Charlamagne recognized a shift in enthusiasm within the Democratic ranks, suggesting that this surge mirrors the high energy levels seen during former President Obama’s initial campaign in 2008. He believes this resurgence is notable, especially for those who may not identify strictly as Democrats.

“A lot of voters, even if you’re not a Democrat, if you’re an independent or an undecided person, you haven’t felt this energized for something in a long time,” he remarked. He highlighted that this newfound enthusiasm feels significant, saying, “This feels like, woah, it’s like real energy. You want to be involved in some way.”

His perspective stands in stark contrast to six months prior, when he criticized President Biden’s leadership, stating that there was “no main character energy” associated with him at that time. This sentiment shifted after Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race, which Charlamagne believes has allowed Harris to emerge as a dynamic candidate with “super main character energy.”

Since taking center stage, Harris has invigorated the Democratic base and her campaign has reflected this positivity with impressive attendance numbers at recent rallies. Just last week, she attracted a crowd of 14,000 people in Philadelphia alongside her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and followed that with a rally in Detroit that drew an impressive 15,000 attendees.

Despite the excitement surrounding Harris’s campaign, former President Trump has downplayed the increasing support, claiming that her current popularity represents just a temporary “honeymoon period” that will inevitably pass.

It’s worth noting that Charlamagne had previously urged Biden to withdraw from the race last year, pointing out his struggles with low poll numbers at that time. His remarks now illustrate a significant turnaround, highlighting the evolving dynamics within the Democratic Party as it prepares for the upcoming elections.

As the election season approaches, both party leaders and political commentators will be keeping a close eye on the actions and sentiments driving voter engagement, particularly regarding the continued rise of Harris within the Democratic framework.
