Charlamagne tha God: Kamala Harris Exudes ‘Super Main Character Energy’

Charlamagne tha God has expressed that President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 race, coupled with Vice President Kamala Harris stepping up as the primary candidate, has injected newfound energy into the Democratic Party. “There’s definitely a lot of main character energy on the Democratic ticket,” he stated during an interview on “This Week” with co-anchor Jonathan Karl, adding that Harris embodies a dynamic presence in the political landscape.

In an earlier conversation with Karl back in February, Charlamagne had criticized Biden, describing his campaign at the time as “uninspiring” and urged him to leave the race. However, the radio personality, also known as Lenard McKelvey, noted a shift in voter enthusiasm recently. He cautioned the Democrats not to get complacent, emphasizing that “the job is not done.” He reminded viewers that they still need to rally support as the election date approaches.

Since Biden’s exit, the Harris campaign has quickly ramped up its efforts. Despite this momentum, Harris has come under scrutiny for not conducting any formal press conferences or interviews with media outlets, both local and national. “She does need to do more interviews,” Charlamagne acknowledged, highlighting the necessity for more direct communication with voters.

When reflecting on the current political climate, Charlamagne remarked, “It’s striking that we really haven’t seen her answer questions yet.” He compared the urgency of the situation to being “at the bottom of the ninth inning,” indicating that Harris should be actively engaging with the public and participating in dialogues across various platforms.

Charlamagne urged Harris to emulate former President Donald Trump’s approach to media interactions. He pointed out that Trump frequently engages with conservative talk radio, a strategy he believes the Democratic Party has yet to effectively adopt. “They don’t use the media that supports them the way the right uses the media that supports them,” he emphasized.

Previously, in late July, Trump made waves with his remarks during an appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago, where he made controversial comments regarding Harris’ racial identity. Karl inquired about Harris’ response to Trump’s insinuation that she “just turned Black.” Charlamagne weighed in, stating that he believed she should not have dignified the comments with a response.

Compounding her challenges, Harris recently announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, but the announcement has also ignited criticism, particularly from some Republican circles who have referred to her as a “DEI hire,” implying she was chosen to fulfill diversity quotas. Charlamagne countered this narrative, stressing that if there were any concerns about a “DEI hire” on their ticket, it was Walz, who would help to diversify the image of the campaign. He pointed out that Harris has broken significant barriers as the first Black and Asian American woman to become a major party’s nominee and the second woman ever at the top of a presidential ticket.

“We knew she needed a DEI hire,” Charlamagne remarked, acknowledging the political dynamics at play. “She needed a white male to make America comfortable. It is what it is. No need for us to, you know, act crazy about it. We know what it is,” he concluded, suggesting that Harris’ candidacy benefitted from strategic considerations in the context of American politics.

As the Democratic primary unfolds, the comments made by Charlamagne tha God highlight both the challenges and the potential opportunities facing Harris in her pursuit of the presidency. With crucial months ahead, the way she engages with the electorate and addresses her critics will be pivotal to her campaign’s success.
