Charlie Woods, Tiger Woods’ son, goes viral with heartbreaking photo

Charlie Woods has once again captured the public’s attention, but this time for a less-than-stellar performance on the golf course. Competing in the United States Junior Amateur over the weekend, the son of golf legend Tiger Woods struggled, shooting a 12-over 82 in the first round and falling out of contention for the title.

Charlie qualified for the event by impressively shooting a one-under 71, the lowest score in his qualifier. However, his performance during the competition was not what he had hoped for. Walking off the 18th green, his frustration was palpable.

In his second round, Charlie shot an 80, concluding the tournament at 21-over and missing the cut. It was his debut in the US Junior Amateur, and at just 15 years of age, he was among the youngest participants. To put it in perspective, Tiger Woods was also 15 when he won his Junior Amateur title, becoming the youngest player to ever do so.

Such comparisons illustrate the almost impossible expectations placed on Charlie as he follows in his father’s footsteps. Tiger Woods remains one of only two repeat winners of the event and the only three-time champion, setting a high bar for any aspiring golfer.

During Charlie’s round on Monday, Tiger Woods was right there on the course at Oakland Hills Country Club in Michigan. The 48-year-old made headlines himself, walking the course in shorts without a leg sleeve, revealing the scar from his 2021 car accident. Despite recently missing the cut in the Open Championship, he showed up to support his son.

Charlie Woods’ golfing career is still in its early stages, and the future looks promising. While he struggled at this year’s Junior Amateur, he has four more chances to compete before aging out at 19. The Junior Amateur is highly prestigious, and there’s no shame in falling short on a major championship golf course.

Fans of the sport will likely see Charlie next at the PNC Championship in December. This event features teams of two family members competing over two days. Last year, the Woods duo finished fifth, six shots behind Bernhard Langher and his son Jason.

Tiger Woods’ schedule closely mirrors his son’s in terms of golf events. Following his round at the Open, he announced his next event would be the Hero World Challenge starting December 5. Hosted by Woods in The Bahamas, this unofficial event will precede his participation in the PNC Championship alongside Charlie.

Tiger’s major season had its own set of disappointments, as he missed the cut in the final three majors. Nonetheless, he made history at The Masters in April by making his 24th consecutive cut at the event. Tiger has stated he will continue to compete in golf’s largest events as long as he believes he can still win.
