‘Chicago P.D.’ Casts Toya Turner from ‘New Amsterdam’

Toya Turner is returning to NBC. The actress, known for her role as traveling nurse Gabrielle in the final season of New Amsterdam, will be switching her stethoscope for a badge in the upcoming 12th season of Chicago P.D.

Turner will take on the role of patrol officer Kiana Cook, “who loves the adrenaline of the job and its stakes and doesn’t blink in the face of chaos.” This isn’t Turner’s first foray into the One Chicago franchise; she has previously made one-off appearances in both Chicago Fire and Chicago Med. However, her new role on Chicago P.D. promises to be more permanent.

The announcement of Turner’s casting comes closely after Tracy Spiridakos exited her role as Detective Hailey Upton in the Season 11 finale. It remains unclear who will replace her in the Intelligence Unit.

Besides her work in the One Chicago franchise, Turner’s credits include projects like Fallen Souls, Using, Empire, Easy, The Mick, Dead Women Walking, Animator, Warrior Nun, and Grey’s Anatomy. It will be interesting to see what she brings to Chicago P.D. and whether Kiana Cook may eventually join the Intelligence Unit. Although, that remains uncertain for now.

The One Chicago franchise has experienced several casting changes recently. On Chicago Fire, Jocelyn Hudon and Jake Lockett were promoted to series regulars as Lyla Novak and Sam Carver, respectively. In addition, Dermot Mulroney has been cast as Firehouse 51’s newest chief, Dom Pascal, following the departure of Eamonn Walker.

In Chicago Med, Dominic Rains exited his role as Dr. Crockett Marcel ahead of Season 10 after joining in Season 5. Cast members have been coming and going in the franchise for years, making it exciting to see who will be the newest additions to the family.

Fans will have to tune in to Chicago P.D. Season 12 when it premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC to see how Toya Turner fares as Kiana Cook. There’s plenty to look forward to when the series returns, as well as new seasons of Chicago Med and Chicago Fire. Viewers won’t want to miss the highly-anticipated One Chicago Wednesday’s return on NBC’s fall 2024 schedule.
