Chiefs’ Hollywood Brown May Play This Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has left the status of wide receiver Hollywood Brown uncertain for the upcoming game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Reid mentioned that Brown might have a chance to play.

“He’s getting close,” Reid remarked. “I know he’s feeling better. We’ve just got to kind of see where it goes from here. They’ve been doing these periodic tests on him and making sure that he’s heading in the right direction, and scans and all that. So it looks like it’s heading in the right direction now.”

Hollywood Brown, who was a significant addition to the Chiefs during the offseason, did not participate in last week’s season-opening victory against the Baltimore Ravens. He has been sidelined since suffering a shoulder dislocation during a preseason game on August 10.

One of the Chiefs’ objectives this season has been to generate more big plays, and even without Brown, they still managed to achieve three passes of over 30 yards against the Ravens. Notably, rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy made a significant impact, scoring on one of those plays as well as recording a touchdown during a 21-yard end around.

Reid highlighted that Worthy’s influence extended beyond his two touchdowns due to his impressive speed. Worthy clocked a remarkable 4.21 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the scouting combine earlier this year.

“They definitely gave him the honor [of his] speed for sure with how they played when he was in,” Reid noted. “I think he showed that he can … go down the field when needed.”

This speed has not gone unnoticed, as Reid acknowledged that opponents will recognize Worthy’s capability after witnessing his performance.

The Chiefs are well aware of the challenges presented by the Bengals and defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, especially since the team has a competitive record of 3-3 against Cincinnati in both the regular season and playoffs since Patrick Mahomes took over as their starting quarterback in 2018.

In their previous encounter last season against the Bengals, the Chiefs relied heavily on their kicking game, managing to score six field goals. Reid commented on the complexities presented by Anarumo’s game strategies, noting, “He’s got a little bit of everything and they do it so well.”

He further elaborated, “Lou is going to throw a whole lot of different pitches at you, and you’ve got to keep swinging. They’re not all going to hit every one of them. He does a heck of a job with that.”

As the Chiefs prepare for their matchup against the Bengals, the potential return of Hollywood Brown adds an extra layer of intrigue. Fans and analysts alike will be keenly watching to see if Brown can take the field, which would add a dynamic element to an already formidable offense. With Worthy stepping up in Brown’s absence, the Chiefs have demonstrated their depth and ability to adapt to challenges.

In conclusion, the upcoming game against the Bengals promises to be a thrilling contest, with the Chiefs aiming to overcome their historical challenges against Cincinnati while looking to establish their offensive prowess further. The question of Hollywood Brown’s availability will certainly keep fans on the edge of their seats.
