Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson Split ‘For Good’ After 7 Years Together

Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson have allegedly called off their engagement and “split for good” after seven years together.

According to Daily Mail, the Coldplay frontman recently spoke on the pair’s love story, revealing he’s “accepted the relationship is over – and it’s best to move on.”

Martin and the Fifty Shades of Grey icon started dating in 2017 and got engaged earlier this year. The 34-year-old actress was spotted wearing her emerald engagement ring just last weekend while walking her dog in Malibu, near where the pair used to live together.

The “Sky Full of Stars” standout, currently nowhere near Johnson, is on the European leg of Coldplay’s Spheres World Tour in Munich, Germany, as breakup buzz comes to light. The former couple split once before in 2019 over an alleged disagreement regarding children, but got back together almost immediately.

Rumors regarding a possible breakup also emerged in May of 2024 when a female fan Martin gave a lift to publicly maintained that the artist was “single.” Then, the following month, Martin and Johnson were seen together again amid supposed “ups and downs” but were reported to be “back on.”

So, what exactly led to the on-again, off-again duo’s relationship demise? A source told Daily Mail that, at the end of the day, they are both too busy to sustain a long-term relationship.

“Chris and Dakota have tried desperately hard over the past few months to make their relationship work. They’ll always have love for each other but they’ve both come to the conclusion the relationship cannot be sustained long-term. They’re both busy people, Chris has been in Europe with Coldplay and they both have personal priorities, passions and work commitments which don’t naturally intertwine with each other. They wanted it to work but it just hasn’t, and they’ve now accepted it is best to move on.”
