Chris Pratt on Joining James Gunn’s DCU After Visiting Superman Set

Chris Pratt’s journey in the world of superheroes might just be getting started. He first stepped into the comic book universe in 2014 with “Guardians of the Galaxy,” taking on the role of Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord. This project kick-started a strong bond between Pratt and “Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn. With the help of Marvel’s renowned casting director Sarah Finn, Gunn chose Pratt for the lead role, and the rest is a multi-billion dollar success story. Pratt has since portrayed Star-Lord six times, with Gunn at the helm of all three “Guardians of the Galaxy” films. While it’s assured that Pratt’s Star-Lord will “return,” Gunn’s era with Marvel seems to be winding down.

In the fall of 2022, Gunn took on a new challenge as the head of the newly established DC Studios, becoming the creative force behind the soon-to-be-rebooted franchise. Gunn has already brought in familiar faces, casting long-time collaborators such as Nathan Fillion and Sean Gunn for upcoming roles in the DC Universe.

Chris Pratt has expressed interest in a superhero future beyond Marvel Studios. When asked by TMZ if he would like to work with James Gunn again within the DC Universe, Pratt responded with great enthusiasm, saying, “Of course!”

“If it could fit into my schedule and it made sense, I would love it,” Pratt shared. “Of course, I love playing Star-Lord, and hopefully, there’s a chance that I can come back. I just feel so blessed to be able to do any of it, to be considered for any of it. If it’s right and the fans would love it, I’d be more than happy to do it.”

The rumor mill is already buzzing with suggestions for Pratt’s potential roles in the DC Universe. Fans have cast him in various roles, from heroes like Booster Gold and Hal Jordan’s Green Lantern to villains such as Captain Cold.

Fans' imagination of Chris Pratt in DC Universe

When asked about characters that pique his interest, Pratt left it up to the fans and experts like James Gunn to decide. “I just have to leave that to the fans and people like James to decide,” he said. “I’m not exactly sure. I’m truly not sure.”

Recently, Pratt visited the set of “Superman” (2025), which will be the first installment in Gunn’s DC Universe. Gunn is also directing this film, featuring David Corenswet as Superman, slated for release in July 2025.
