Chris Rock Asked Kelly Ripa for Permission to Use His Daughter’s Name
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are not protective over the name Lola, even though it’s the name they gave to their only daughter, Lola Consuelos.
During Wednesday’s episode of their talk show, Live With Kelly and Mark, they discussed the topic of child names and the etiquette surrounding them. Ripa recounted an amusing story regarding comedian Chris Rock seeking her permission for a significant choice.
Ripa recalled that Chris Rock had approached her when he was expecting his first daughter. She had just named her daughter Lola. Rock asked, “‘Listen, Malaak and I are thinking of naming the baby Lola and we just want to check with you to see if that’s OK,'” Ripa recounted, referencing an article from People.

Ripa expressed that she had no objection to Rock using the name, and she even joked about wanting her own Lola to take part of Rock’s daughter’s name. “I was like, ‘First of all, I don’t own the name Lola, I didn’t trademark it. And second of all, we can all agree Lola Rock is an amazing name,'” Ripa added. She humorously suggested, “‘Do you mind if I change Lola’s last name to Rock?'”

Consuelos praised Rock’s courtesy, calling it a “very polite” gesture. However, Ripa felt it was unnecessary. “Yeah, but it never occurred to me,” she stated. “I wouldn’t even… I’m not the only Kelly, you’re not the only Mark.”
Aside from 23-year-old Lola, Ripa and Consuelos also have two sons, Michael, 27, and Joaquin, 21.
In 2023, Lola spoke to ET about her famous parents discussing private family moments on their talk show. She appreciated their discretion, saying, “They know me inside and out, so I think they know by this point what line they shall and shall not cross.” She added that her parents have always respected her boundaries. “… They never actually really cross a line. We have a very respectful relationship, so there’s never been a real moment where I’m like, ‘Oh my god, why would you share that?'”
In March, ET interviewed Ripa and Consuelos about their future on Live With Kelly and Mark.
Consuelos commented, “Until it’s not fun,” indicating their plan to continue as long as they are enjoying it.
Ripa added, “Honestly, I’ve spent my life with him, I can do things with him for decades. I guess decades is your answer.”
