Clea DuVall to Write and Direct ‘Perfume & Pain’ Series for Legendary TV

Legendary Television has secured the rights to Anna Dorn’s novel “Perfume & Pain,” with Clea DuVall lined up to write and direct, as exclusively reported by Variety.

The book is described as a “sexy and twisted character drama” focusing on a sapphic novelist who is teetering on the brink of superstardom and self-destruction. The protagonist, Astrid, must navigate her way through her vices to find healing, true love, and success.

Published in the U.S. on May 21 by Simon & Schuster, the novel has garnered significant attention. The project will see Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler of Killer Films taking on the role of producers.

Anna Dorn has other notable works including “Exalted,” “Bad Lawyer,” and “Vagablonde.” Her forthcoming novel, “American Spirits,” is also set to release through Simon & Schuster. Dorn is represented by Gersh and Sanford J. Greenburger Associates for her publishing endeavors.

Clea DuVall has made a name for herself as an accomplished actress, writer, director, and producer. She debuted as a feature director with the indie comedy “The Intervention,” which she also wrote, co-produced, and starred in, alongside Natasha Lyonne and Jason Ritter. The film won a special jury prize at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. Recently, DuVall co-created the Fox animated series “HouseBroken,” where she serves as an executive producer and voice actor. Her other notable works include the Amazon Freevee series “High School” and the romantic comedy “Happiest Season.” DuVall is represented by UTA and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis.

Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler co-founded Killer Films in 1995. The company has produced several iconic films such as “Kids,” “I Shot Andy Warhol,” “Boys Don’t Cry,” “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” “One Hour Photo,” “Beatriz at Dinner,” and “Dark Waters.” Their recent productions include “May December” and “Past Lives,” along with TV series like “Mildred Pierce” and “Halston.”
