CNBC is ending its nighttime financial news show “Last Call,” effective immediately. The 7 p.m. ET show was anchored by Brian Sullivan and made its debut in February last year, taking over from the network’s previous general news program, “The News with Shepard Smith.”

CNBC had initially envisioned “Last Call” as a way to recap the day’s top financial stories and provide an outlook for the next day. However, in a memo to employees, Dan Colarusso, Senior Vice President of CNBC Business News, explained that the decision to cancel the show was challenging but necessary. The network determined that the 7 p.m. ET slot was not ideal for their audience.

Going forward, CNBC’s business day programming will wrap up with “Mad Money” at 6 p.m., and alternative shows like “Shark Tank” will fill the vacated time slot. Colarusso emphasized that while the news is disappointing, it is a strategic move aimed at long-term success. “By redirecting our resources, we can invest more effectively in initiatives that will help drive innovation and expand our reach,” he wrote.

Brian Sullivan will continue his role as an anchor and senior national correspondent for the network. According to a source, the number of employees affected by the cancellation is minimal, and efforts are being made to find other opportunities for them within the NBCU News Group.
