CNN Taps Daily Show Veteran to Host ‘Have I Got News for You’

CNN is stepping into the comedy arena with a new show hosted by Daily Show alum Roy Wood Jr. The new program is the American version of the popular BBC comedy series Have I Got News For You.

This new addition will air weekly on Saturday nights at 9 pm ET and will also be available for streaming on Max on Sundays.

“For far too long immigrants have been coming to America and taking Black jobs, kudos to CNN and the immigrants at Hat Trick Productions for bringing a Black job to the States,” Wood Jr. commented on his new role, subtly jabbing at former President Donald Trump’s rhetoric.

“It is an honor to be a part of such a hallowed British institution to help make sense of the American institutions of chaos, name calling, disinformation, reality television and the 8-hour news cycle,” the comedian added.

Wood Jr. previously worked as a correspondent on Comedy Central’s Daily Show from 2015 to 2023, and hosted a season of This Is Not Happening on the same network. He’s also an experienced stand-up comedian with multiple specials under his belt.

CNN, currently ranking third in cable news ratings, has seen success with its “CNN Originals” brand. Have I Got News For You will fall under this umbrella.

Amy Entelis, executive vice president of talent, CNN Originals and creative development, oversees the CNN Originals portfolio. This includes the CNN Original Series, CNN Films, CNN Presents, and CNN Studios, which produces long-form content for CNN’s global platforms.

Over the years, CNN Originals has given viewers beloved shows such as Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown and Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy. The network also won an Oscar for its documentary Navalny.
