Cody Johnson and Lainey Wilson Set to Cover “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man”

Over the weekend, Cody Johnson scored his third #1 single at mainstream country radio with “Dirt Cheap,” which topped the Mediabase country chart. This chart, along with the Billboard Country Airplay chart, is one of the key metrics used by labels to track song performance.

In a recent interview with Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton, Johnson co-hosted the show and disclosed an exciting new project. He has a song idea brewing to cover Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn’s classic “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” with Lainey Wilson. Given Wilson’s Louisiana roots and her current rise with a new album called “Whirlwind,” the potential duet seems like a match made in musical heaven.

Johnson also shared that he plans to go hunting with Wilson’s boyfriend, Devlin “Duck” Hodges. Apparently, Hodges earned his nickname due to his passion for hunting. Johnson stated, “I’m going duck hunting with her boyfriend Duck. I guess that’s how he got his name because he’s really into hunting.”

Johnson continued, noting how the idea came about: “I heard Loretta Lynn’s ‘Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man.’ I called Lainey and said we should record that song together, and she agreed. But we haven’t done it yet.”

Given that Wilson has already expressed her willingness to join the project, fans might wonder why the collaboration hasn’t happened yet. Both artists have a deep admiration for the musical legends before them, and their styles would likely mesh perfectly.

“Louisinana Woman, Mississippi Man” originally served as the title track for Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty’s collaborative 1973 album. Written by Becki Bluefield and Jim Owen, it quickly became their third #1 hit on the country charts as a duo. The song remains a timeless classic, beloved by country music fans for decades.

Lainey Wilson and Cody Johnson represent a modern yet genuine take on classic country music, so a duet between them would be highly anticipated. Fans can only hope this dream collaboration becomes a reality soon.

Turn up the nostalgia and the music, and enjoy a timeless hit:
