NBCUniversal is set to finalize an 11-year rights deal, bringing NBA games to NBC and Peacock over the next decade. This agreement promises to significantly affect the broadcast schedule of the network.
“Soon we will have an 11-year rights deal,” announced Mike Cavanagh, president of NBCU parent company Comcast, during a conference call with investors on Tuesday. He expressed confidence in securing the deal and downplayed any major impact from Warner Bros. Discovery’s recent efforts to match terms of an agreement between the NBA and Amazon.
Scheduled to begin in the 2025-2026 season, the new package will feature 100 NBA games each regular season across NBC and Peacock. Cavanagh highlighted that this package would include more games than any other media partner and exceed the number of regular-season games currently offered by each existing partner.
According to an insider familiar with the recent discussions, one of the proposed plans is for NBC to broadcast NBA games on Sundays, following the end of “Sunday Night Football,” as well as on Tuesdays. Meanwhile, Peacock would stream two games each Monday.
More to come….
