Longlegs is Neon’s latest horror movie, and it’s gaining significant attention for several reasons. Rising scream queen Maika Monroe stars alongside Hollywood veteran Nicolas Cage in this spooky tale — and fans will be surprised by the character Cage portrays.

Set in the 1990s, FBI agent Lee Harker, who possesses clairvoyant abilities, is assigned to investigate a mysterious case. The FBI has been on the hunt for an occultist serial killer known as “Longlegs” since the 1970s. Despite extensive efforts, the case remained unsolved for years, until Lee discovers a personal connection to the killer.

The trailer, released in June 2024, showcases the buildup of suspense surrounding Cage’s character. As Maika’s character, Lee, delves deeper into the mystery, the underlying horror slowly comes to the forefront.

In addition to Monroe and Cage, the film features a talented cast including Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, Michelle Choi-Lee, and Dakota Daulby. Not only does Nicolas Cage play the serial killer, Longlegs, but he also serves as a producer for the film.

Despite their limited screen time together, Maika Monroe recounted an intense on-set experience with Nicolas Cage. According to Monroe, director Osgood Perkins decided to keep her in the dark about Cage’s appearance and character until her first encounter on set, enhancing the authenticity of her reaction.

“They had been filming with Cage for five days at that point, and it was his last day, probably three weeks into filming,” Maika mentioned, as reported by Variety. She noted that Perkins chose not to let her see or meet Cage beforehand to maintain the element of surprise.

Production assistants escorted Monroe to a room where the awaited scene would unfold. As the cameras rolled and action was called, she opened the door, and what unfolded was a genuine moment of fear and awe.

“The cameras start rolling on me, and the director calls ‘action.’ I opened the door and what you see is all very real, and it was incredible,” she shared. “He’s unrecognizable, and so I didn’t feel like I was in a room with Nic Cage. I was in a room with Longlegs.”

After the intense scene, Cage, still in his full character look, approached Monroe with a surprising comment. He leaned over and expressed his admiration, saying, “Oh, I’m such a big fan of you.”

Longlegs promises a bone-chilling experience, combining strong performances and a gripping storyline. With Cage’s commitment to method acting and Monroe’s genuine reactions, the film is set to be a standout in the horror genre.
