Connor Stalions Discusses Michigan Sign-Stealing Scandal in Netflix’s ‘Untold’

Untold has quickly risen to become one of Netflix’s most popular shows. The series offers viewers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look into some of sports history’s most significant stories, scandals, and conspiracies.

From the mafia-connected ownership of the United Hockey League’s Danbury Trashers to NBA referee Tim Donaghy’s felony gambling charges, Untold covers it all. The show never fails to deliver captivating topics, and on Monday, the streaming giant announced that season four of the docuseries will premiere weekly starting August 20.

Three episodes are set to be released in the upcoming weeks and months. One episode, in particular, promises to be a must-watch for college football fans.

On August 27, former Michigan football analyst Connor Stalions will “share his side” of the “alleged sign-stealing scheme that turned him into a viral villain,” according to Netflix.

Stalions became widely known for his involvement in the misconduct, which led to his termination from Michigan and head coach Jim Harbaugh being suspended for three games. Less than a year after he was dismissed, the story resurfaces, but this time through the lens of the infamous analyst himself.

Following investigations from the Big Ten and NCAA, Stalions was identified as the mastermind behind the operation at Michigan. The conference concluded that Harbaugh wasn’t aware of the scheme but punished him for allowing it to occur under his leadership.

Stalions was reportedly attending rival teams’ games to gather information that would give Michigan a competitive edge against its adversaries. He allegedly purchased tickets to games of opponents that the Wolverines would or could face. Additionally, he had various individuals record the sidelines of games he didn’t attend. According to ESPN, it was a highly “elaborate” system.

NCAA rules expressly prohibit in-person scouting at opposing stadiums and recording another team’s signs. However, Stalions was accused of doing both.

Michigan eventually completed an undefeated season in 2023, culminating in a College Football Playoff victory. While it’s debatable whether Stalions’ efforts made a significant difference, critics will always question if the outcome would have been the same without his unethical behavior. Although we’ll never have a definitive answer, hearing the saga from his perspective will certainly be intriguing.
