Lou Dobbs, a conservative commentator known for his assertions of extensive fraud in the 2020 US presidential election, has passed away at the age of 78, as announced on his X account Thursday.

Donald Trump, a Republican presidential hopeful, paid tribute to Dobbs, calling him “a friend, and truly incredible Journalist, Reporter, and Talent,” and extended his condolences to Dobbs’ family in a post on his Truth Social site.

Dobbs’ account on X confirmed his death with a statement, “It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of ‘the great Lou Dobbs.'”

Fox News, where Dobbs was employed after his departure from CNN in 2009, corroborated the news of his death, lauding him as “an incredible business mind with a gift for broadcasting.”

Following the 2020 presidential election, Dobbs persistently promoted unfounded allegations of electoral fraud, asserting these claims contributed to Trump’s defeat, even though there was no substantial evidence to corroborate such allegations.

Fox News subsequently cancelled his show, “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” in early 2021. This decision came shortly after the voting technology company Smartmatic filed a $2.7 billion lawsuit, accusing the network of broadcasting falsehoods that severely damaged its business prospects.

While the Smartmatic case is still pending, Fox News has already settled another lawsuit with Dominion, a different voting technology firm. Fox agreed to pay $787.5 million after Dominion sued the broadcaster for disseminating untrue claims that its machines were involved in stealing the election from Trump.
