Controversial Trump Biopic Finally Gets a Release Date: Report

The biopic of Donald Trump that led the former president to threaten legal action is scheduled for release on October 11, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Briarcliff Entertainment is set to distribute “The Apprentice,” and the film will be entered into festivals prior to its theatrical debut. The premiere comes just a few weeks before Election Day, when Republican nominee Trump aims to reclaim the White House against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.

“Soooo excited to show the movie to its home audience!!! America here we come,” director Ali Abbasi exuberantly shared on X on Friday.

“The Apprentice” offers a critical portrayal of the real estate mogul-turned-president, focusing on his rise to power. The narrative follows a young and impressionable Trump learning the harsh realities of New York City politics in the 1980s under the guidance of right-wing lawyer Roy Cohn.

The film was showcased at the Cannes Film Festival in May, where it received an eight-minute standing ovation. News of its salacious details quickly caught Trump’s attention.

One of the scenes in the film depicts Trump allegedly raping his wife, Ivana Trump, after she makes a comment about his appearance. This scene is based on her 1990 divorce deposition, in which she accused Trump of rape, though she later clarified she did not mean the charge literally.

“This garbage is pure fiction which sensationalizes lies that have been long debunked,” said Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung amid the uproar at Cannes. Cheung added that Trump would pursue legal action against what he called “false assertions” by “pretend filmmakers.”

Despite the threats, Abbasi seemed undeterred. During a press conference at Cannes, he remarked, “I mean, everybody talks about him suing a lot of people. They don’t talk about his success rate though, you know?”

Trump’s team did issue a cease-and-desist letter to deter potential distributors.

The film also touches on Trump’s vanity, including claims that he underwent liposuction on his love handles and scalp reduction surgery to address his bald spot. Inside Edition covered these aspects in a segment.
