Country Singer Billy Gilman Marries Anthony Carbone After 2 Years Together

A decade after opening up to his fans about his true self, Billy Gilman is celebrating another significant personal milestone.

The country artist—who gained fame at the young age of 11 with his 2000 hit single, “One Voice,” and became the runner-up on “The Voice” in 2016—announced this week that he married his longtime boyfriend, Anthony Carbone, on Friday.

The couple exchanged vows on a 45-acre horse farm in Gilman’s home state of Rhode Island, surrounded by over 100 guests, according to People.

Gilman, a Grammy nominee with five studio albums, publicly came out as gay in 2014. At the time, he was inspired by fellow country artist Ty Herndon, who had also addressed his sexuality in an interview with People that was published the same day.

“Being a gay male country artist is not the best thing,” Gilman shared in a video clip reported by Billboard. “If people don’t like your music, that’s one thing. But after selling over five million records and having a wonderful life in the music industry, I knew something was wrong when no major label wanted to sit down and listen to my new stuff.”

He added, “I’ve been an advocate for so many things in my life. I thought, why not be an advocate for myself and for a cause I believe in with my whole heart.”

Gilman and Carbone met just before Thanksgiving in 2022 and began dating soon after. They got engaged in September of last year.

“I’m home. This is my home for good, for bad,” Gilman, now 36, told People. “I’m truly grateful that Anthony is that kind of a human because I never thought I would find it.”

The wedding comes as Gilman seems to be aiming for a professional resurgence. This year, he released two new singles, “That’s Bluegrass to Me” and “Til You Come Home.”

He is set to return to the concert stage on September 9 in South Kingston, Rhode Island, with additional performances scheduled in Concord, New Hampshire, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, among other cities.
