Country Singer Jake Davey Proposes to Longtime Girlfriend: Congrats!

Jake Davey is engaged! The Australian country singer shared the joyous news on social media on July 6, revealing his engagement to his girlfriend of four years, Grace Coleman. The proposal took place on Hamilton Island, one of the Whitsunday Islands in Queensland, Australia.

Davey made the announcement by posting a heartwarming snapshot from the special moment. The image captured him down on one knee, proposing to Coleman. He captioned the photo with the exciting words, “She said YES.” He also expressed his love by adding, “I couldn’t imagine spending my life without you by my side.”

The engagement news thrilled fans and followers, prompting an outpouring of congratulatory messages for the couple. One person enthusiastically commented, “congratulations again you guys!! Beautiful news,” while another wrote, “Congratulations you two! So so happy for you both!” The supportive comments continued, with a third fan adding, “Congratulations!! I’m so happy for you both, but also very happy to see you’re able to get down on one knee after your battles.”

The engagement follows a challenging period for Davey, who made his return to music earlier this year after stepping back due to health issues. In 2021, Davey was diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis. This condition causes the spaces within the spine to narrow, leading to pressure on the spinal cord and nerves, according to the Mayo Clinic. Davey revealed that the disease affected his “ability to walk and live day-to-day without lower back pain and sciatica.”

In August 2023, Davey provided more details about his health struggles. He explained that his condition had worsened to the point where he was in “excruciating pain” and unable to walk without the assistance of a support frame and significant pain relief. Due to the severity of his condition, Davey was admitted to John Hunter ED for emergency back surgery. He shared, “It’s hard to say if the surgery was a complete success, there’s always complications when it comes to nerves and spinal conditions like mine.”

Throughout his health journey, Davey received tremendous support from his fellow Australian musicians. They organized Jake-Fest, a concert fundraiser to help cover his medical expenses. The event featured performances by Chelsea Berman, Taylor Moss, Kylie Jane, Piper Rodrigues, Imogen Hall, Jack Hudson, Maddy Andrews, and Jamie Preston.

Despite the critical nature of his condition, Davey returned to the music scene earlier this year with the release of two singles, “Made” and “Second Chance.” Reflecting on the latter, Davey said, “I guess a lot went through my mind 5 months ago when I was diagnosed with Cauda Equina Syndrome, I truly feel like I’ve been given a Second Chance, so I wrote a song about it!” He dedicated the song to “anyone who’s been through some shit and made it out the other side!”
