Crowd Sings John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ After Olympic Volleyball Dispute

On Friday afternoon, tempers flared during the women’s beach volleyball final at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Brazil emerged victorious, winning two sets to one with scores of 26-24, 12-21, and 15-10.

The heated match saw Brazil’s duo, Ana Patricia Silva Ramos and Eduarda Santos Lisboa, competing against Canada’s pair, Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson.

In the third and final set, with the match tied at one set each, tensions escalated as both teams began exchanging words through the net, causing a brief delay.

The official intervened, attempting to separate the teams and blowing the whistle multiple times, but his efforts were in vain. Wilkerson was the only player penalized for the altercation.

After the heated exchange, the DJ at Centre Court, situated right in front of the Eiffel Tower, played John Lennon’s 1971 hit song “Imagine.”

The Olympic crowd joined in, singing along and bringing smiles to all four players’ faces. The message of world peace and unity resonated with the athletes, the crowd, and viewers at home.

Even the commentators were touched by the moment, acknowledging how fitting the music was after the incident.

“Imagine all the people… living life in peace,” the crowd sang.

“Imagine” reached No. 3 on the Billboard 100 and remains one of the most revered songs. It was also the best-selling single of Lennon’s solo career, following his time with The Beatles.

Fans were captivated by the moment and took to social media to express their thoughts.

“The way the tension immediately dissipated lmfaoo that DJ deserves a raise,” one fan commented.

“This was everything… the way the song snapped them out of it had me dying and then they hugged at the end of the match and everyone lived happily ever after,” another added.

“Another legendary fun Olympics moment. This Olympics has been an absolute banger for fun and silly things and great individual stories.”

“Iconic moments like these are worth living to see.”

“Best Olympics ever”

“Oh my goodness.”
