Dan Fogler to Portray Batman Producer Michael Uslan on Stage in ‘Walking Dead’

Actor, comedian, and writer Dan Fogler, known for his roles in Balls of Fury and Fantastic Beasts as well as his portrayal of music aficionado Luke on The Walking Dead, has secured his next role. This time, Fogler is making a transition from screen to stage in The Boy Who Loved Batman.

The play is based on the memoir of Michael E. Uslan, who has contributed to all Batman films starting with Tim Burton’s 1989 classic and extending to Batman-adjacent movies like Joker and Justice League. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Uslan’s journey with Batman began in 1979. In partnership with former MGM executive Benjamin Melnicker, Uslan purchased the film rights to Batman—a property Warner Bros. initially saw no value in.

This inspirational comedy begins in New Jersey and takes the audience on a journey to Hollywood, chronicling how Batman comic books evolved into blockbuster movies.

The Boy Who Loved Batman will be staged at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts in the Jaeb Theater in Tampa, Florida. The play runs from October 1 to November 10. Written by Asa Somers, the production is directed by Tony winner Jeff Calhoun, known for Newsies. The creative team includes Daniel Allen for scenic design, Caite Hevner for projection design, Mike Wood for lighting design, Jeremy Douglass for sound design, and Newt Rametta for costume design.

Fogler will portray Michael Uslan, and he will be joined by Paul Adam Schaefer, fresh from his run in The Phantom Of the Opera, who will play the role of Imaginary Friend. Katherine Yacko will perform as Uslan’s wife, Nancy. The cast also includes Kelly Bashar, Nicholas Perez-Hoop, and Hugh Timoney, who will be portraying multiple roles such as Uslan’s family members, Bill Finger, Stan Lee, and more.

Great Day Live recently featured Fogler and Uslan, where they chatted about the memoir and the upcoming play.

Looking ahead, Fogler will star in the Bob Dylan biographical drama A Complete Unknown, directed by James Mangold. Scheduled for release on Christmas Day 2024, Fogler will play Albert Grossman, the late manager of the iconic singer-songwriter. Timothée Chalamet will portray Dylan and also serve as a producer on the film.

The movie will feature many music industry legends. Edward Norton will play Pete Seeger, Monica Barbaro will take on the role of Joan Baez, Boyd Holbrook will be Johnny Cash, and Scoot McNairy will portray Woody Guthrie.

Recently, Fogler starred alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in the Netflix original, Eric.
