‘Dancing with the Stars’ Welcomes Controversial Celeb for Season 33

It looks like Anna Sorokin, more famously known as Anna Delvey, is swapping her prison orange jumpsuit for silk, satin, and sequins. She is set to join the Season 33 cast of Dancing with the Stars.

The New York City-based Russian fake heiress and con artist, who was convicted of grand larceny in 2019, served time in prison until her release under house arrest in 2021. Currently in Los Angeles, she has been granted special permission to travel for her participation in the hit ABC competition show, according to Page Six.

ABC has yet to confirm her participation officially.

Delvey became a notorious figure when she was jailed in 2019 after conning more than $250,000 from banks, financial institutions, and her wealthy friends. She aimed to launch an exclusive members-only club. Delvey was sentenced to four to twelve years in prison, fined $24,000, and ordered to pay restitution to her victims.

“The thing is, I’m not sorry,” she told the New York Times a day after her sentencing. “I’d be lying to you and to everyone else and to myself if I said I was sorry for anything. I regret the way I went about certain things.”

The Netflix show Inventing Anna, starring Julia Garner, was inspired by her life story.

Since her release from prison on February 11, 2021, for good behavior, Delvey has fought extradition and has been successful so far. While still under house arrest, she has been allowed to work. Her activities include producing a runway show, hosting the podcast The Anna Delvey Show, and releasing her debut single “What the Hell?” with TikTok star Brooke Butler.

In August, Delvey was also given permission to return to social media. She currently posts as @theAnnaDelvey on Instagram.

“I’m grateful and thrilled to be able to control my own narrative once again on social media,” she told the New York Post.

Dancing with the Stars will be returning to ABC and Disney+ on September 17 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
