“Dateline NBC” on Hiatus: When Will It Return?

Fans were left disappointed tuning into Dateline NBC on Friday only to find no new episode. Instead, the network had dedicated its airtime to the 2024 Paralympic Games. So, when can viewers expect Dateline to return to its regular schedule? Here’s all the information you need.

The Paralympic Games showcase athletes with disabilities and typically follow the Olympic Games, occurring every other year. This global event is a significant priority for NBC, taking precedence over its usual programming like Dateline.

NBC’s coverage of the Paralympic Games started on Wednesday, August 28, in Paris, France, and will continue until September 8. The opening ceremony took place on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées and wrapped up at the Place de la Concorde.

This year marks the first time the Paralympics are being held in France. Around 4,400 differently-abled athletes from all over the world are participating, with 22 events scheduled. Many of these sporting events are being held at the same venues that hosted the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Unfortunately for Dateline fans, this means the true crime show won’t air for the next two weeks. Dateline is expected to return on Friday, September 13.

If you missed the last episode of Dateline NBC on August 23, here’s a quick recap. The episode centered on Nicolas Morelos, who was killed in Tucson, Arizona, in 2016. The former Marine, aged 45, was found dead in his home on July 18, 2016, having been shot eight times, including one fatal shot to the forehead.

After his military career, Nicolas served as the director of maintenance at Marana Aerospace Solutions. Known for being a tough boss, he had several adversaries at work. Rumors also suggested he was involved with multiple women simultaneously, including colleagues. His fiancée, Kristina Trepanitis, found his body after he missed their usual morning communication.

The crime scene painted a violent picture. Bullet holes scarred the walls, shell casings littered the floor, and blood was everywhere. Investigators also discovered broken glass from a window the perpetrator used to enter the house and evidence of an attempt to clean up before fleeing.

Critical clues left at the scene eventually pointed investigators to James Lapan. It was revealed that James had workplace conflicts with Nicolas and was in a relationship with Jessica, Nicolas’s ex-girlfriend. James had previously made complaints about Nicolas and was seen with a cut on his arm shortly after the murder.

A search of James’s home uncovered blood-stained clothing, shell casings, and bullets linking him to the crime. He was subsequently arrested and convicted. In 2018, James Lapan was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for murdering Nicolas Morelos.

During the show’s hiatus, viewers can still catch up on Dateline episodes through streaming platforms like the NBC app, Peacock, and Hulu.
