Dawson’s Creek Alum Obi Ndefo Passes Away at 51

Obi Ndefo, the actor renowned for his role in Dawson’s Creek, has passed away at the age of 51.

The news of his death was shared by Ndefo’s sister on Facebook on Saturday night. The announcement comes five years after a tragic hit-and-run accident resulted in the amputation of both of his legs. The cause of his death has not been disclosed. TVLine is currently reaching out to Ndefo’s family for further confirmation.

Ndefo portrayed Bodie Wells, the boyfriend of Bess Potter (a character played by Nina Repeta), from 1998-2002 on The WB’s Dawson’s Creek. He also took on the role of Rak’nor in Stargate SG-1, appearing between 2000 and 2005. Ndefo’s other notable TV appearances included roles in The West Wing, Half & Half, NYPD Blue, Crossing Jordan, Star Trek: Voyager, and 3rd Rock From the Sun. His most recent TV credit was for a 2021 episode of NCIS: Los Angeles.

On August 17, 2019, Ndefo was involved in a hit-and-run accident which led to the amputation of both his legs. In an interview with the LA Times, he discussed the incident with remarkable positivity. “This is just so horrendous what happened to me, why would I compound this by feeling bad about it?” he said.
