DC Unveils First Glimpse of Event Finale

DC’s major 2024 event kicked off earlier this month with the official launch of Absolute Power. This series, brought to life by Mark Waid and Dan Mora, is expanding into numerous issues and tie-ins. Recently, DC revealed the first look at the covers for Absolute Power #4, set to be released on Wednesday, October 2. Written by Waid and illustrated by Mora, Absolute Power #4 will feature the “Trinity of Evil”—Brainiac, Failsafe, and Amanda Waller—battling DC’s superheroes for the control of the DC Universe.

The upcoming issue will showcase a main cover by Mora, alongside variant covers by Simone Bianchi, Guillem March, Derrick Chew, Mico Suayan, and Stephen Bliss. Additionally, there will be a raised UV variant cover by Yasmine Putri, the final connecting variant cover by John Timms, a Power Participation variant cover by Juliet Nneka, and a villain-focused variant cover by Mikel Janín.

In Absolute Power #4, the last remaining resistance fighters are engaged in a fierce struggle on the tumultuous island of Gamorra. During this intense conflict, Batman and Superman find themselves at odds. Meanwhile, Amanda Waller, refusing to admit defeat, summons reinforcements from across the Multiverse. The fate of the DC Universe hangs in the balance, with promises that nothing will remain the same after these events.

Discussing the series, Waid expressed his intent to generate genuine peril and drama without putting the entire universe in jeopardy. “I wanted to create a real sense of peril and drama without endangering the universe,” Waid explained in a recent exclusive interview. He aimed to step away from the “big cosmic stories,” focusing instead on more personal, grounded stakes for the characters.

Waid elaborated on his approach to the series, questioning what would universally affect all the characters. “What is the worst thing that you can do to these characters? What great sense of loss can you imprint upon universally all of them?” he pondered. Rather than taking away their loved ones, which might not impact all characters equally, Waid proposed a more profound loss—stripping them of their superhero identities.

This impactful narrative sets the stage for a high-stakes showdown that promises to redefine the landscape of the DC Universe.

. Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Absolute Power #4 to see how these dramatic events unfold and their consequences on their favorite superheroes.
