Deadpool and Wolverine Camera Tests Evoke Emotional Reactions

The screen tests for Deadpool and Wolverine have deeply moved MCU fans, especially thanks to Hugh Jackman’s iconic suit.

During an interview with HeyUGuys, executive producer Wendy Jacobson shared her thoughts on seeing Jackman don the comic-accurate yellow and blue suit for the first time. She also recounted the emotional reactions on set, mentioning that grown men were moved to tears.

“It was one of the craziest things. It was the camera test, it was before we started shooting, and to see both of those guys, in costume, together, was just mind-blowing,” Jacobson said. “But Hugh walking out in the yellow and blue, I mean, there were grown men sobbing on the set. So we knew it was a very special thing.”

For those familiar with Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine, it is well-known that he has never worn the legendary yellow and blue suit. While the suit made a brief appearance in The Wolverine, Jackman’s character never actually wore it. Instead, Jackman’s Wolverine has typically been seen in black leather or white tank tops.

This historical context adds to the significance of the yellow and blue suit making its appearance during the production of Deadpool and Wolverine. Fans of the MCU and comic book aficionados had intense emotional reactions to seeing the suit, as it symbolizes an important part of the character’s legacy in the comics.

Hugh Jackman first charmed audiences as Wolverine back in 2000’s X-Men. He continued to play the role in five more X-Men films, also appearing in three standalone Wolverine movies.

In 2017’s Logan, the character’s storyline came to a grim end with Wolverine’s death, yet Jackman has returned to the role in Deadpool and Wolverine, albeit as a variant of the character.

Aside from the X-Men franchise, Jackman has earned recognition for his roles in The Prestige, Happy Feet, Les Misérables, and The Greatest Showman. His collaboration with Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy isn’t new, as the two worked together on Real Steel and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, among other projects.

The plot of Deadpool and Wolverine centers on Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) living a quiet life. This tranquility is disrupted when he is recruited by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) for a mission that will have broad implications for the MCU timeline. Along the way, he teams up with Wolverine (Jackman).

The duo will face off against Cassandra Nova, played by Emma Corrin, who is the twin sister of Charles Xavier. Matthew Macfadyen also stars as Paradox, a TVA agent.

Several actors from the previous two Deadpool movies are set to return in the third installment. Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapičić, Shioli Kutsuna, and Lewis Tan will all reprise their roles.

Jennifer Garner will also return as Elektra, a role she first played in the 2003 Ben Affleck-fronted Daredevil movie and her own spinoff in 2005. Additionally, Aaron Stanford and Tyler Mane will return as Pyro and Sabretooth, respectively.

Shawn Levy directed this eagerly awaited movie based on a script co-written by Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. Levy also serves as an executive producer alongside Kevin Feige, Reynolds, and Lauren Shuler Donner.

Deadpool and Wolverine is set to hit theaters on July 26.
