Deadpool Coming to Disneyland Without His R-Rated Antics

Deadpool is set to make an appearance at Disneyland’s Avengers Campus, though visitors shouldn’t expect his usual raunchy behavior. To celebrate the upcoming release of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” the wisecracking antihero will grace Disney California Adventure starting July 26, but only for a limited time. The masked character has already begun appearing at Disneyland Paris as of this Wednesday.

“Even Deadpool can’t resist a Disney day!” read a post on Disney Parks’ official Instagram page.

The version of Deadpool that visitors will encounter at Avengers Campus won’t exhibit the violent tendencies or foul language that he’s known for in the comics and movies. “Some of the Super Hero content from Disney’s film studios and on Disney+ is geared towards a more mature audience; however, any character who appears in our theme parks will offer an experience and interaction that is appropriate for guests of all ages,” a park spokesperson told Nexstar.

Many fans of Deadpool had previously speculated that Disney would avoid including such a risqué character among its park attractions, especially after acquiring 21st Century Fox and gaining the film rights to Deadpool. “Deadpool absolutely would never happen at Disneyland,” one Reddit user recently wrote. “Deadpool is the antihero, but the comics are violent as hell. No [way] Disney allows that image in the park, even though they got Deadpool through the Marvel acquisition.” Another user echoed the sentiment: “You couldn’t have a proper Deadpool experience at the parks.”

Even a toned-down version of Deadpool represents a notable shift for Disneyland. According to Entertainment Weekly, this marks the first occasion that a character from an R-rated film will appear at the park. (All three films in the Deadpool franchise have been rated R; “Deadpool & Wolverine” is the first R-rated Marvel Studios film). Though a representative for Disneyland neither confirmed nor denied this milestone.

It’s not yet clear whether Deadpool will interact with guests or just participate in live shows at the park. However, if the TikTok videos from Disneyland Paris are anything to go by, visitors at the Anaheim location can expect to see a lot of family-friendly dancing from Deadpool.
