Deadpool & Wolverine Hit $600M at Domestic Box Office Over Labor Day Weekend

Earlier this week, it was reported that Deadpool & Wolverine would dominate the box office during its sixth weekend in theaters and achieve another milestone in the process. The results are now in, and the Marvel Studios movie has won the Labor Day weekend box office, crossing the $600 million mark domestically. This makes it only the 16th movie ever to achieve such a feat in the United States. Although Deadpool & Wolverine had a fantastic weekend, it was generally a slow period for theaters.

Much like Memorial Day weekend earlier this year, Labor Day weekend also saw muted activity overall at the box office. Deadpool & Wolverine garnered an additional $15.2 million over the weekend, with its total through Monday’s holiday estimated to reach $19.5 million. The film’s new official total stands at $603.8 million in North America and a staggering $1.25 billion globally.

Among the weekend’s top earners, nearly all were returning films. The second place went to Alien: Romulus, which accumulated another $9.3 million over the weekend (with an estimated total of $11.5 million through Monday). To date, the Alien sequel has made $91 million domestically and $283.5 million worldwide.

Coming in third was It Ends With Us, adding an additional $7.4 million over the weekend (with an estimated $9.5 million through Monday). The romantic drama has thus far pulled in $135.8 million in the United States and $283.7 million globally.

In fourth place was Reagan, a new biopic starring Dennis Quaid as the former President. The film earned $7.4 million, with a projected total of $9.2 million through the holiday. Rounding out the top five was Twisters, which saw a reopening in 4DX theaters and added $7.1 million to its total, with an estimated $8.7 million through Monday. After seven weeks in theaters, Twisters has amassed $259.6 million domestically and over $351 million worldwide.

Other new releases struggled to make an impact. The sci-fi horror film Afraid landed in ninth place, earning $3.7 million (an estimated $4.4 million through Monday). Meanwhile, Tyrese Gibson and Scott Eastwood’s 1992 opened to a modest $1.3 million, with an estimated total of $1.65 million through Monday.

Currently, Inside Out 2 remains the highest-grossing film of the year. Stay tuned for more updates on the 2024 box office.
