Debbie Reynolds’ Collection Included Elizabeth Taylor’s Iconic Costumes

The collection of Hollywood treasures Debbie Reynolds owned goes down in history as one of Tinsel Town’s most impressive stashes of memorabilia and costumes from all-time classics. She even kept Elizabeth Taylor’s effects, despite the controversy between them over Debbie’s ex-husband, Eddie Fisher.

Debbie’s dream was to turn her grand collection into a museum in collaboration with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences; however, she ended up selling off most of the keepsakes after getting rejected.

Debbie Reynolds had a collection of Hollywood treasures that would have any collector making starry eyes.

The actress sourced most of the items in her memorabilia haven from the MGM prop and costume auction, and it contained historical pieces like Marilyn Monroe’s white dress from the upskirt scene in The Seven Year Itch, and Julie Andrews’ dress and guitar from The Sound of Music.

Other iconic pieces included the ruby slippers and blue dress Judy Garland wore as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz and Elvis Presley’s grand piano from his Holmby Hills mansion. Charlie Chaplin’s hat was not missing either, and neither were Barbra Streisand’s Hello, Dolly! gowns. Debbie ended up making a $25 million fortune from her collection but kept one of the original Maltese Falcon statues from Humphrey Bogart’s Maltese Falcon of 1941.

The feud between Debbie and Taylor did not stop the former from adding an item off the Cleopatra set to her collection. Debbie collected one of Taylor’s headdresses from the 1963 movie, which was shot while her ex-husband was still married to Taylor. Fisher left Debbie with two kids, Carrie and Todd, and wed Taylor on the day of their divorce.

Taylor infamously got involved with her co-star Richard Burton, which led to her split from Fisher in 1964. Debbie had an on-and-off friendship with Taylor amid the scandals and later had to sell off her investment of many years, which included a camera used in Star Wars, so she and her children could live on the ensuing wealth.
