Deep Purple & Yes Start 2024 Tour: Set Lists, Videos

Deep Purple and Yes kicked off their joint 2024 tour on Wednesday night in Hollywood, Florida. The tour, titled “1 More Time,” celebrates Deep Purple’s latest studio album, “1,” and marks 50 years of their iconic hit “Smoke on the Water.” In a recent interview, Deep Purple’s frontman Ian Gillan expressed his wish for a different tour name but emphasized the band’s overall happiness with the tour.

Yes, although promoting their latest tour, drew heavily from their classic catalog throughout the night. Their most recent offering is an expanded box set of their 1994 album “Talk,” available in a 4CD or limited-edition white vinyl format.

Highlights of the evening included the live debut of Deep Purple’s “Show Me” from their latest album “1.” Yes also presented live debuts of familiar favorites like “Yours Is No Disgrace,” “Clap,” and “Siberian Khatru.”

Back in 1970 at the National Jazz and Blues Festival, both Deep Purple and Yes found themselves on the same ticket. Both bands assumed they would close the show, leading to a scheduling issue. Promoter Jack Barrie, from London’s legendary Marquee Club, intervened to find a solution. Ian Gillan reminisced about the moment, recalling how Barrie politely asked Deep Purple to perform earlier, which they agreed to. However, Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple added some unexpected drama by setting his amplifiers on fire, resulting in an explosion on stage.

The North American tour with Deep Purple and Yes will continue through September, featuring key stops in cities like Houston, Detroit, Chicago, Toronto, and Montreal. Deep Purple will also appear solo on August 19 in Oklahoma. Before this tour, Deep Purple released a super deluxe edition of “Machine Head,” a 3CD/LP/Blu-ray set featuring tracks like “Smoke on the Water,” “Highway Star,” and “Space Truckin’.”
