Delta Planes Collide on Tarmac at Atlanta Airport, FAA Reports

Authorities are looking into a collision between two Delta Airlines planes that occurred on the tarmac at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia. The incident involves Delta Air Lines Flight 295 and Endeavor Air Flight 5526, with Endeavor being a subsidiary of Delta.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that the incident took place shortly after 10 a.m. as Delta Flight 295, an Airbus A350, was taxiing in preparation for its departure to Tokyo, Japan. During this time, the wingtip of the A350 collided with the tail of Endeavor Air Flight 5526, which was preparing to depart for Lafayette, Louisiana. According to Delta, both aircraft were on alternate taxiways when the collision occurred.

Delta confirmed that there were 221 passengers on board the Tokyo-bound Airbus and 56 passengers on the Endeavor flight. Fortunately, a spokesperson from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport indicated that there were no reported injuries as a result of the incident.

Following the collision, photos and videos surfaced showing passengers exiting the damaged Delta aircraft. The Bombardier CRJ900, operated by Endeavor, is one of the smaller planes in the Delta fleet, while the Airbus A350 is among the largest. Weighing approximately 600,000 pounds when fueled, the Airbus stands in stark contrast to the Bombardier, which weighs around 70,000 pounds.

Later in the day, Delta announced that all passengers affected by the collision had been rebooked on other flights. Despite the incident, airport operations experienced only minimal disruption, reported an airport spokesperson.

Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have indicated that they will be conducting investigations into the circumstances of the collision.

Images captured after the incident reveal the extent of the damage to the Delta aircraft, showcasing a scenario that highlights the complexities and potential risks associated with airport ground operations.

As the investigations by regulatory authorities proceed, the focus will be on understanding how the collision occurred and what measures can be implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future. The safety of passengers and crew remains a top priority for the airlines involved and the aviation industry as a whole.
