In light of an increase in burglaries, more celebrities are leaving LA for Texas. During Hollywood’s early years, California was the ideal location for the film industry. However, actor Dennis Quaid believes Texas now has the potential to take on that role permanently.
Quaid, 70, is a Houston native with deep ties to Texas, even being a distant cousin of the Singing Cowboy, Gene Autry. Forbes reveals that moving from LA to Texas offers benefits not only for Hollywood insiders but for anyone seeking beautiful scenery and financial relief. Here’s what Quaid is proposing.
On May 12, Quaid appeared on Fox News’s Jesse Watters Primetime to advocate for producing films in Texas. He stated, “We want to make Texas the film capital of the world.”
He added, “That’s what Texas used to really have – a great film incentive program and a great film crew base. About nine or 10 years ago, I made some great movies there and [I] love working there.”
Quaid loves filming in Texas so much that he can’t remember the last time he filmed in LA or California at all. He also described Texas as “more business-friendly.”
“Texas did a really good job at taking a big share of the tech industry away from Silicon Valley,” Quaid observed. “You go down to Austin and you can see that really clearly. And the same thing can be done with movies and television shows. It’s a great place to shoot.”
Quaid has been actively contributing to this economic boost. He appeared in a video alongside Mathew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson to promote movie productions setting up in Texas. The state is also working on Texas House Bill 4419, which would increase state rebates from $45 million to $200 million, creating a “film events trust fund.”
Many celebrities are also leaving California, not just for filming, but for security reasons. Goldie Hawn is seriously considering relocating after multiple alarming break-ins have deeply unsettled her family. Full House icon Candace Cameron Bure has already moved out of LA and feels no regrets. Where did she go? Texas.
In summary, with increasing support from influential figures like Dennis Quaid and efforts to boost local film production incentives, Texas is positioning itself as a competitive alternative to LA. Both concerns about safety and advantages in business climate are driving this potential industry shift.
