Deryk Whibley of Sum 41 Addresses Rumors Involving Linkin Park

Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley has addressed rumors speculating that he might be involved in an upcoming announcement from alt-rock band Linkin Park.

Linkin Park, once led by the late Chester Bennington, has hinted at significant news coming on Wednesday, August 28, with a countdown timer on their website.

Adding fuel to the fire, the Danny Wimmer festival Welcome to Rockville also shared the countdown, sparking suggestions that a Linkin Park reunion might be on the horizon for the 2025 festival season.

Speculation grew even further when Whibley posted on Instagram urging fans to “tune in Wednesday morning.” Coupled with the fact that Sum 41’s March 2024 album, Heaven :x: Hell, was their last, fans began to suspect a collaboration between the two bands.

To clear up the confusion, Whibley posted a message on his social media accounts.

“I feel the need to dispel some current rumours,” he wrote. “It’s been brought to my attention that many people think I could be joining a reuniting band. But I just want to say, despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis… or Linkin Park. Or any other band for that matter.

“I have my own ‘tour and book’ announcement that I will now move to the end of the week, ahead of our US tour. I do look forward to seeing whatever both these amazing bands do in the future.”

Since Bennington’s passing in 2017, Linkin Park has been on hiatus. However, ongoing rumors suggest that a reunion featuring original members Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, and Dave Farrell could be in the works.

Previous reports indicated that a female vocalist might step in as the lead singer. Evanescence’s Amy Lee was quick to shut down speculation that she could fill the role.

“That is an incredible compliment, have not heard that,” she mentioned in an interview with Canada’s iHeart Radio.

“No, I have not been contacted by [Linkin Park] or anything like that. But [I’m a] huge fan [and] feel like our worlds, our fanbases are a lot of the same people.”

In what has been one of the most talked-about reunion announcements of the week, Oasis’s Noel and Liam Gallagher confirmed that the British rock band would be coming back together for a major stadium tour in 2025.

The much-anticipated news caused the official Oasis website to crash on Tuesday, August 27, as fans eagerly tried to check the dates for the band’s shows in London, Manchester, Dublin, and Edinburgh next year.
